Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.
While I was in Chapel Choir in college, we sang a different biblical verse every week. These catchy little tunes stick with you after a while. Every time I come upon one of those verses in the Bible, I end up singing it. That is when I realized that I worship God best through song.
While we were on the mission trip a few years ago in Kentucky, this was proven to me once again during “Covering Prayer”. While the rest of the crews went out into the local area to minister, one group remained behind to “cover” everyone in constant prayer. Because my husband and 10 year old son were going to be spending the morning on a roof, I felt it was my duty to cover them in prayer. I said a prayer or two out loud, but it was often too difficult to get the words out. Finally I started singing “Salt and Light”. Others from the group joined in and we ended our prayer session in song. What a feeling of Christian love and support. Songs can help the Word of Christ dwell in us, and with gratitude in our hearts, we can sing to God!
