Whatever by Anonymous
Philippians 4:8-9 Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.
It is not a secret to those who know me best that I have been struggling to with my vocation over the last several months. Like you (I assume), I want to work in a role that makes me feel useful and empowered. I don’t want to go to work everyday feeling unfulfilled and miserable; knowing that all my job has to offer me is a pay check every two weeks. I want to like my job. I want to be happy, darn it!
But beyond the “happiness” factor, I want to be a good steward of my time and my relationships both in work and out of work. I want to use my God-given gifts to serve and glorify Him, wherever I am. I don’t have to be in the perfect job to serve Him. In fact, it matters less WHERE I serve God than HOW I serve God wherever I am. Even the most menial of tasks can be true, honorable, pure and commendable and can be done to please God. I may not like being a “whatever” right now, but it glorifies God to be the most exceptional “whatever” I can be until I am able to discern His call.
So, while I search for the places that God wants me to be, doing the things that He is calling me to do, I will “keep on doing” for His glory. Amen.
