The Gift of Peace

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

This is a gift that you receive! It is freely given but it comes with a price. How is that even possible; I mean how can something be free and yet costly? The fine print on the back of the tag might read something like this:

Spend time with Me every day. Get to know Me better. Talk with Me about everything. Trust Me. You be you and let Me be God.

We must willingly give up some time, the temptation to try to hide things from Him, our desire to be self-sufficient and our less-than-humble feelings of adequacy. Perhaps you can make peace with someone but real peace comes from the heart of our heavenly Father. When we start our day focusing on Him, He tends to make our way a little smoother. When we give our concerns to Him, we feel relieved. We actually sleep in heavenly peace. Regardless of the cost, I think most of us would enjoy unwrapping this kind of a gift.

Okay, so what about world peace and the tensions that are being stretched to the max within various groups? We know that we are incapable of fixing these problems. However, they are still on our radar. Guess what, they are on His radar too! Can’t you hear Him explaining the gift of peace with the following words?

Spend time with Me every day. Get to know Me better. Talk with Me about everything. Trust Me. You be you and let Me be God.

Begin each day alone with Him so that you can experience the reality of His Presence. Arise from the stillness of your communion, and gradually begin your journey through the day. Hold His hand in deliberate dependence on Him and experience the gift of peace. Even in troubled times, peace can be found.

Rest in Him, forgetting about the worries of the world. Focus on Him—Immanuel—and let His living Presence envelop you in Peace.

Silent Night

Father God, thank You for the gift of peace which comes from Your heart. Give us the willingness to open this gift through Your Son and experience it every day. AMEN.
