The Gift of Security

Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

One of the best feelings in the world is knowing that we are safe. From All God’s Creatures, Randy Benedetto has captured this concept with his Chocolate Lab, Bay, very well.

The schools were closed and the highway patrol warned drivers to stay off the snow buried roads or risk getting a ticket. It was the perfect day to call off work, and I couldn’t wait to take my four-month-old puppy out in her first snow.

Oh, what fun to pull her on a sled and watch her jump deep snowdrifts that were way over her head! She burrowed her brown snout into the snow and emerged as cute as a calendar picture. She wiggled on her back, her tiny puppy legs squirming in every direction, and made snow angels. Bay was enjoying herself immensely, but it didn’t take long she became cold and tired. She couldn’t explain that she was weary and her winter coat wasn’t very thick but she turned to me for help.

My heart melted. I unbuttoned my jacked, bent down, and scooped her into my arms. She jumped under the cover and safety of my coat, tucked her head under my warm arm, and didn’t move all the way home. This was a time when we bonded with each other. She depended on me, and I protected her.

I often find myself feeling worn out and defenseless, concerned about finances, my work, our health and many other things. At times like these, I open my Bible and turn to the Psalms. It’s like climbing onto my Father’s lap and letting Him comfort me and warm my worried soul. I feel my Father’s love wrapped around me, just as Bay, curled up in a ball beneath my coat, trusted in her master. Safe in His arms, we take the next step in our journey toward home.

A safer place cannot be found, beyond all measure,

Close to the Father’s heart is everlasting pleasure.

During the holidays, run to the Father’s arms and settle down. Let your guard down for He’s got you covered. Feeling safe and secure is a gift from our heavenly Father and it is one that only He can truly offer us. Receive it with a grateful heart.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the security You offer to us every single day. Help us to use it wisely and share You with others so they can experience this blessing now and always. AMEN.
