Adventures Within The Mundane
Genesis 3:22 Then the Lord God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!”
(Other notable examples - Judges 13-16; I Samuel 19-24; Acts 9:1-17)
A note from my grandson was Spirit-guided into my hand, to be read on an undetermined day. Its message was intended to be inspiration for that day. It announced, “Live for the ADVENTURES within the mundane.”
No author. No publication cited. So I did what I have been taught by my much younger family members. I googled it. The first reference was immediate—a blog by a young Christian woman. It began:
What do you do when God drops an adventure into your lap?
Do you try to give it back like a hot potato?
Do you look at it and try to figure out what to do with it?
Or do you look at it like the blessing it is (seeing as it's from God) and embrace the next path in front of you?
Not the answer I was looking for, not the help I wanted, but it was the impetus I needed to spend time in meditation. The effort wasn’t pleasant. I realized that morning notions of new ventures for the coming day were often shelved until I could handle some of the more pressing problems awaiting my attention. Then—you probably guessed it—the Spirit-led adventure was usually lost. If I did remember it, I had several excellent reasons why it couldn’t be done.
However, today I embraced the proffered path and am writing a devotion, which I hope, and will pray, that it becomes an impetus for you.
How do you start your day? Do you somehow recognize that the new day is a gift and it came from God?
A friend says he starts with, “OK. Lord, what do you have planned for us today?” My own preference is, “Today is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” It seems to me that the two of them go together pretty well. I’ll try that for a while.
If something like this appeals to you, remember who is doing the planning for your day. So, listen to him. Have faith that the plan will eventually benefit you, greatly. If you saw the size of the blessing coming, you would understand the magnitude of the struggle ahead.
God bless you and keep you.
A timely short commencement thought.
