The ‘You and I Together’ Factor

“They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord” (Psalm 112:7, NIV)

Sounds like a great mystery novel doesn’t it? I love those edge-of-your-seat, white-knuckle mysteries with their twists and turns. There is something captivating that keeps me wanting to turn the page. I will even give up sleep time to find out what happens next.

But have you ever questioned or thought of your life as a mystery? From one day to the next we do not know what is going to happen. We think we have it all planned out and then God slips in those twists and turns. The true question isn’t whether we can cope with the sudden changes but whether you and God can handle anything that occurs. Are you a team player or a lone ranger?

Let’s start with the beginning of the day. As our eyes open, does the world look foggy and out of focus? Many days are launched with fears and anxiety about what lies ahead. So restart the day at any time, asking Him to help us in the unbelief. Really, isn’t that what fear and anxiety is anyway!

We need to untangle our thoughts and make time to meet with Him. When we begin the day with a muddled mind, we tend to ask ourselves the wrong question – whether we will be able to cope with today’s events. The real question is this: How are we, God with us, going to handle the circumstances ahead?

If we would just broaden our perspective and envision Him (Immanuel—God with us) right there alongside of us at every twist and turn, nothing could possibly scare us. “I can do everything through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:23, NIV).

To get to this level of faith, we must spend time in His Word, pray and communicate with Him on a daily basis. While we meditate on this joyous focus, the qualms felt about the day will give way to a cheerful confidence. Mystery solved!

God will always be a mystery. But He has written a far-better ending than we could possibly imagine. Just keep reading and turning pages in The ‘You and I Together’ Factor and you’ll discover that the best is yet to come!

The Mystery of God by Dan Schutte

Father, help me to live this day as Your teammate! Thank You for loving me even when it is difficult to trust. Help me in my unbelief! AMEN.
