It All Comes Down to This - by Alan Pitt

Matthew 22:37-38 “Jesus said to him, “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.”

The overall message of the Bible is God’s plan of action to save humanity from its sin so that it can have fellowship with Him in eternity. God loved us enough to reach out and create a path for us to salvation. We ought to love the one who loves us enough to save us from ourselves.

This scripture is the first half of a couplet that is another way to explain the Bible’s message. Jesus tells us that the second half of the couplet is in the verse that follows: “And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

In short, the Bible’s message is to love God and love one another. If we did, we would treat one another as we would want to be treated. Think of a world with no lying, cheating, stealing, murder, envy or hate. We have a model to follow in our individual striving to love God and neighbor. It’s Christ and our every day should begin with a prayer for strength to live as Christ showed us.
