What We Have
“Better what the eye sees
than the roving of the appetite.
This too is meaningless,
a chasing after the wind” (Ecclesiastes 6:9).
It is a rainy, foggy and humid day in Limerick, PA but somewhere in the world, it is sunny and clear with not a cloud in the sky.
Perhaps it’s a little inconvenient for us, but it is not life threatening as they are experiencing in the western states. Our hearts go out to the people living in the areas of drought and wild fires.
We have all had the opportunity to be vaccinated free of charge, but we still are seeing surges in America. Some third-world countries continue to be ravaged by this tiny, unseen enemy because of their remote locations and lack of medicine.
Having the right to vote for our leaders is a privilege that many people cannot begin to fathom.
Are you grateful that you can attend the church of your choice, pray and worship without being hunted down, beaten and imprisoned for your faith?
Having children is a gift from God but there are some places where the number of children is limited due to an over-stretched population.
We can vacation and fill our cars with gasoline anytime we need it but there are some who are rationed and never allowed to take time off from their work.
Our beloved pets are part of our family and we are extremely protective of them. In many countries, those same pets are sold in the marketplace for food.
The average American home has at least 4 Bibles on a shelf somewhere. There are laws against even owning God’s Word in several nations.
Oh, how we love to complain! Maybe it’s time to do some soul searching before we grumble about what we have. Personally, I love these rainy days. They force me to slow down and enjoy the peace and quiet. I can take a few more minutes in my devotion time—unhurried moments—to pray for those experiencing the real hardships of life.
Enjoy your day!
