Irritated
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
ME: How is it possible to feel irritated and I am not even out of bed yet?
JESUS: What is the cause of this malaise—in your mind?
ME: Jesus, if I knew, I could quickly get rid of it. I’m not being sassy but there are moments when I just feel frustrated about everything. My grandmother used to tell me that I got up on the wrong side of the bed. Maybe I did back then, but today I have not even gotten out of bed.
JESUS: You are so predictable and I can find humor in your thoughts.
ME: I am not feeling very funny.
JESUS: Yes, I know but the cure is so simple. You would rather try to analyze what sparked this feeling and you don’t need to do that. All you must do is whisper, “Jesus” and I come to you.
ME: You can’t be serious! Are you telling me that I can ditch this funky feeling by just saying Your name?
JESUS: Yes! However, you must get out of your head and listen with your heart.
ME: I am not sure I understand; my head controls my heart.
JESUS: My child, there is a vast difference between head knowledge and heart knowledge. You spend too much time in your head and you miss the miracles that come from the heart. I send them every day and you have opportunities to see. Yet you try to decide if you really saw what you saw or you ask how that happened. I make all things possible.
ME: Why can I wake up and feel like this?
JESUS: What do you do before you turn off the light? Don’t answer that because I already know what you do. You have a noise machine to block out exterior sounds and it sounds like rain falling. You rely on that noise to help you sleep. What would happen if you spent your last conscious moments talking to Me and praising Me for all the miracles and blessings of your day?
ME: But I do talk to You.
JESUS: Talk to Me in a deeper, more significant way. You could approach Me with wonder and gratitude. You might even feel comfortable enough to crawl up on my lap. Listen to My heart beat with love for you. I will hold you until you fall asleep in My arms.
ME: You would do that for me?
JESUS: I willingly do that for all who need rest.
ME: Just how big is Your lap?
JESUS: My lap is big enough!
ME: Wait… Do You sing lullabies?
JESUS: Yes, and you have heard them many times.
