The Key

Matthew 6:25-33 Read this, read the devotion. [The relief is vs 34, below.]

I never really got the whole idea of Alice in Wonderland—it was too frenetic for me, too disjointed, it made me nervous and unsettled. Then, in the Disney movie, I saw the lock with legs running around in a panic, running frantically here, there, and yon. Finally, Alice says to the lock, “What are you doing? Why are you running around in all directions?” And the lock says, “I am seeking the key to unlock myself!”

That’s me. But in my life, I am usually locked to something, something that was appealing or drew me magnet-like toward it and then the lock did what locks are wont to do—snap shut. Then I have to lug it with me wherever I go; that is, until I find the key to unlock and release me. But, the key always changes depending on what has been ‘captured.

Once I find the right key and use it, I put it on my belt, intending to use it the next time this particular problem arises. However, I tend to lose some of them—so the frantic hunt reoccurs. After a while the keys will accumulate and the weight becomes a bother. It actually becomes a burden. Even if I have the right key, I may forget where it is and not locate it. So…I cry out, “Oh, a key, a key, my kingdom for a master key!”

That is precisely what Jesus is giving us in verse 34—the key will unlock you. Here is the key to life. It is described all through the book, the Bible. It says to live in his kingdom. Just celebrate God as the King of your life and the Lord of all your relationships. Let that be your number one priority. Put that first, then everything else will fall into place for you, and your life will be full of joy and zest and purpose and mission and meaning and fulfillment.  Wow, that’s a lot.

Here is the key. Keep it in your forethought.   Matt 6:34 “So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today. The instructions are also found throughout the Bible—“Thy will. O God, be done.”

Listen as Hillary Scott sings that answer as a prayer.
