Coffee with Jesus
Show me your ways, Lord,
teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long. Psalm 25:4-5
ME: It is my day off so why am I awake so early today?
JESUS: I wanted to talk to you.
ME: I guess I should say thank You for getting me up today but I really could have used the extra sleep.
JESUS: I’ll wait while you get your coffee.
ME: Hmmm…(I wonder if I’ve done something wrong already. I haven’t been up very long.)
JESUS: I heard that and no, everything is good. I just want to chat. You are most alert in the morning and I have things lined up for you to do today.
ME: (with cup in hand) Wait, I already have things on my agenda for today. It’s my usual Friday with piano lessons and Bible study.
JESUS: I know your normal schedule very well. What if I were to ask you to do something special? Would you protest or be open to My Will for your day?
ME: Honestly Jesus, I would have to say it depends on what You’re asking me to do. This conversation is beginning to make me feel a little uncomfortable.
JESUS: So, you still have those trust issues?
ME: You know I do. I do trust You with normal things. I know right from wrong and stuff like that and I know You only want good for me. I also know You will guide me through this day and hold my hand.
JESUS: Are you fearful of what I may ask you to do?
ME: Ummmm… frankly yes!
JESUS: What if I challenged you to go an entire day without complaining?
ME: I can do that; it’s a piece of cake!
JESUS: Really? Try it!
ME: Is that the special thing?
JESUS: No, but we’re getting closer. Instead of complaining about how bad things are in your America, I want you to pray. Your country is in need of great healing. I’m asking you to pray like never before. From the political top to local levels, I want you to pray.
ME: That is not special. That is kind of normal.
JESUS: Then why don’t you do it more?
ME: I…don’t know. I guess I have no excuse.
JESUS: Your honesty makes Me smile. Enjoy your coffee.
