He Saved Us
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit Titus 3:4-5
We are saved, all our sins are washed away, we are born from above – that moment when we trust Jesus as our Savior. How wonderful a truth that is. But as wonderful a truth as it may be, it’s difficult to accept from time to time because of our faulty human nature.
Don’t you feel sometimes that your actions and behavior might exclude you from God’s love? Don’t you find there are times when you just feel you haven’t done enough good deeds to earn the love of God? On my personal journey I must admit there were times when I tried my darndest to do good deeds to gain some merit and to work my salvation. Conversely there have been times when I thought my behavior might have been less than “holy” to put me out of favor with God.
But the truth told here in the scripture is that there is nothing I have done or could ever do that would qualify or disqualify me from salvation. The matter is solely and exclusively based on the kindness and love of God. He wishes no one to perish so He gave us new life in Christ, by the power of His Holy Spirit, and the only condition imposed on us is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and salvation is ours.
Indeed, one of the most difficult things for us sinners is to accept that salvation is a gift of grace from God to those who simply believe on Christ as Savior. We who believe that He died on the Cross to pay the price for our sins, are called to be one of His own and are granted life everlasting.
Your mercy saved me. Praise His holy name.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace and mercy toward me, a sinner. Thank You that You have washed away my sins and made me a new person in Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
