Practice Trusting
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Psalm 143:8
Trust does not come easy for me! I want to be able to trust my Lord and Savior 100%. In my mind I can do that but, in my heart, there is still that little question. It is a tiny little sliver and does not seem to go away. Even when I see a miracle happen before my eyes, I can rationalize and analyze with the best.
We are not born with trust. It must be earned, nurtured and affirmed. Why is it so difficult for us to have complete trust in Jesus? For me, it is because people that I trusted let me down. I know what you are thinking: Jesus does not have skin today. Great answer, and you are correct. But as often as I have heard some of these stories found in the Bible, I still wonder if it really happened just as it was written.
Practicing trust is vitally important right now. With the world thrown into darkness, change and unrest, trusting in God is a no-brainer. Take a moment and imagine what life might be like for those who have rejected the Savior. How do they handle life? There are not enough miracles to convince them of a better way. For me, the thought of being separated from God gives me shivers.
The story of the young boy afflicted by an evil spirit is a great example of trust. The father approached Jesus and simply asked Him to heal his son if He could. I can picture Jesus raising His eyebrow and looking into the man’s eyes saying, “What do you mean…if I could?” The exchange must have been something to behold. Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief (Mark 9:24).” Now this gives me good shivers!
When I lived in Florida, there was one year when we had four hurricanes in a row. It was a very stressful time for all Floridians. Really, what does a country girl from PA know about hurricanes except that they are a powerful force? I watched the storms come and go. The winds howled and the dogs howled. I prayed not just for myself but for my friends and their families. Those storms strengthened my faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. I trusted Him with my life, and He did not let me down.
Every day He gives us opportunities to trust Him more and more.
