Harvest Time, Pumpkins & Falling Leaves
As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease. Genesis 8:22
Fall is upon us! What it looks like depends on where you live. (I now reside in FL but I once lived in Easton, PA.) The earth is changing day by day with cooler weather, leaves falling from the trees, changing from sleeveless dresses, T-shirts and putting on warmer jackets and cozy sweaters.
For most of us, it is a welcome relief from the summer heat. The outer fall clothing keeps us snuggly and warm. That cool breeze is welcomed, and for me, it is almost a feeling of security.
Families are making their plans to go out into the pumpkin fields and spend time looking for the perfect pumpkin to bring home and decorate for porches and windows.
I recently discovered that pumpkins are known to be a resilient fruit. It finds ways to grow large and bulging with all the goodness from the earth it takes in by connecting with the vine that reaches into the earth to feed itself. It is said that pumpkins are symbols of prosperity, growth and a sign of abundance.
This is what God wants for us. He desires that we find abundance in Him. We must dig into His word, thus creating those roots that reap all the life-giving nourishment that will sustain our souls. He wants us to bulge at the seams in His love and to share it with others.
The consistency of the earth's seasons is a reflection of its Maker and the steadfastness of His character. God created our seasons for His purpose. What a beautiful promise! How perfect that God created the earth to tilt on its axis so that we get to enjoy all the beautiful seasons.
They all have divine purpose and I am truly grateful for the seasons. But if God were to ask me about my favorite, I must be honest and say fall, with all of its splendor and radiant colors. I look forward to the crisp sounds of leaves crunching, the distinct smell of nature…and putting on my warm sweater.
Thank You Father! Your seasons are perfect and the display of Your love in forming our seasons gives me joy. Each season You created reminds me of Your perfect planning and the planning of my own life’s seasons. AMEN.
