Worry Web

Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34

We have all stumbled into the beautiful, intriguing yet annoying spider webs. Furiously we wipe the silky web from our face, arms or legs and pray that the resident spider did not come along with the artistic trap. Just to see this display of nature is unbelievable especially when the morning dew drops are highlighted by the first rays of sun. That one arachnid can create this masterpiece overnight is quite a miraculous feat.

Worry webs can be very glamorous. I truly believe that our enemy can do all of the above-mentioned works as he tries to lure us into his trap. Let’s change gears for a few moments and think about his deceitful web. Don’t get me wrong, it can be extremely well built and look innocent. However, once we have fallen in, there are chains that bind us. We are subject to worry and anxiety. Getting out can be most difficult. That’s why it is better not to fall prey to his schemes in the first place.

The best way to stay out of a worry web is to trust God, that He will take care of our needs. Life gets all tangled, so I know you are thinking, “That’s easy for you to say, Mo, because you don’t know what I’m going through.” You are correct on both counts but let me just share that trusting isn’t easy for me either. There are times that I literally have to speak verses out loud and hear myself saying the words—and even then, I fall short.

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? Psalm 56:3-4

And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10

He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. Psalm 112:7

There must be something to this trust stuff because it is mentioned 188 times in the Bible.

Perhaps we would be better off if we let tomorrow worry about itself and we remain in the present. I am absolutely certain—beyond a shadow of a doubt—that it is in the present that we will find Him.

Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus

Heavenly Father, thank You for being trustworthy. Teach us to stay alert and avoid those terrible traps. Help us to trust You more and more! AMEN.
