Why Did You Come Here?

I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.  John 12:46

ME: There is so much going on in this messy world, please tell me again why You came?

JESUS: Why don’t you tell Me your thoughts about this. I’d like to hear them.

ME: But You already know my thoughts.

JESUS: Sometimes, it is good to hear your own voice.

ME: Ok, here are my human thoughts. You came in person to show us love. Somehow, I don’t think we have done a very good job of following Your example. There are countries fighting and greedily squabbling over land, wealth and leadership. The news is full of what You would call foolishness and all kinds of things that make me cringe.

JESUS: Go on, you are on a roll.

ME: Jesus, we are not even kind or loving to our family members at times. I can remember the time when she said hurtful words and…

JESUS: Wait…! What was your original question again?

ME: Why did You come here?

JESUS: So, tell Me according to what your heart knows.

ME: You came as a tiny baby and You were God’s Word wrapped in skin. I love how You are bringing Light to our dark world.

JESUS: Now your thoughts are positive and I have lived up to every one of these things. Keep going!

ME: Eternal life was your biggest purpose for coming to earth. You preached the gospel and taught about humility. How am I doing?

JESUS: You are responding with the truth, My dear child.

ME: Not only did You fulfill the law of the prophets, but You showed us how much You love us even though we are quite sinful at times…well, at least I am.

JESUS: I also came to save the lost. I am the source of peace and joy. You haven’t forgotten that have you?

ME: Oh no, Jesus, I just haven’t gotten there yet. You also came here to heal broken hearts and bodies and to bring glory to God.

JESUS: And…

ME: I think You came to restore us to holiness. This is where I struggle because it has been over 2,000 years since You set foot on our planet and it is in worse shape than when You left.

JESUS: So what are You doing to help Me? Have you breathed your last breath yet?

ME: Of course not.

JESUS: Trust Me! My work is not finished nor is yours.

Mary, Did You Know?
