Today
This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24
Most people love to celebrate and thankfully we have many causes for celebration. The birth of a child, a promotion at work, a good report card, a teenager passing his driver's test, a family reunited -all are wonderful events in our lives. What celebrations in your life have caused you to be especially grateful?
The psalmist reminds us that each day is a gift from God. We know that on many days it can be challenging to celebrate. On days when we or a loved one are ill, when there has been a difficult stressor or change in our lives, or when a loved one dies – celebrating and giving thanks are the last things on our minds.
But there is One thing to celebrate every day – Jesus loves us and He will never leave or forsake us. He will rejoice with us in times of joy and laughter and He will comfort us through dark days of tears and sadness. Jesus is the source of our gladness that can never be diminished. No matter our circumstances, the love, power and presence of Christ will sustain us.
Lord God thank You for the gift of each day! Help us be mindful of the all of the blessing we experience each day, from the “ordinary to the extraordinary” – the warmth of the sun on our faces to the love of family and friends. On difficult days help us give thanks for Jesus Christ, Who sustains, supports, loves and saves us. Amen.
