From My Writing Table

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12

As I sit here safe and cozy at my writing table, I cannot wrap my mind around what is happening on the other side of the world. I am struggling to comply with this Bible verse. I know I must but somehow the words are stuck in my throat.

These innocent people have done nothing to deserve this! We watch as they leave their beloved country, carrying what they can and it makes no sense. They are left without homes, family, food, water, shelter and even hope. They are experiencing war up close and personal. Our hearts break!

This devotion is not a political soap-box but rather a call to stand united in prayer for a country of desperate and hurting people.

What can we do to help them hold on to their hope? Or to find it again? There are all kinds of lists of things to do to help a person build hope but I only found a couple that mentioned turning to faith or meditation. A sad commentary indeed!

Let’s be real, even with faith we were rocked by COVID-19. Imagine escaping your home seconds before it turned into a pile of rubble. How much hope do we have? Yes, we put our hope in God but there are limits to what our heart can withstand before it shatters!

This besieged country needs our prayers. They need help! Prayer is stronger than any tank, missile or bomb. If God could part the Red Sea for the Israelites, surely, He can hear our pleas for the safety of these people. If Jesus could call Lazarus out of a tomb after being dead four days, He can handle this!

We can give them some of our hope through our prayers. Our communication with God is vital! We prayed our way through the pandemic and now there is a new and different kind of enemy. It is time that we earnestly seek safety for our worn out, shell-shocked, grieving friends. I am praying for different cities of the Ukraine and their leaders each day. Please join me as we offer hope to a hurting nation.

In God We Trust

Father God, we do not know the pain that they are feeling. We have not felt their hopelessness but You know. Give us an extra portion of hope that we may share with others. AMEN.
