Need Inspiration
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 (NIV)
Two entire days went by without some inspiration for writing a devotion. I began to get a little worried and started wondering if I had done something offensive to find myself in this situation. I took Mr. Grumbles for a nice walk one morning and voiced my anxiety.
This little quiet voice spoke to my heart saying: “Look around. What more do you need?” I am not sure what I was looking for; maybe some profound topic or theological statement as we draw nearer to Easter. When I stopped and obeyed, I was truly embarrassed with my behavior.
What I observed was more than I can express in these written words but I am going to try. There were tufts of new grass, daffodils and tulips, an abundance of various happy and chatty birds at the feeders, woodpeckers rat-a-tat-tatting nearby, the sun was shining and although windy, the American flag was flying proudly and I had a warm coat to wear. Inside, the house was cozy and I had some orange juice and a toasted bagel waiting for me.
Perhaps we want someone to “WOW” us all the time. We like being entertained and we don’t take the time to enjoy God’s magnificent provisions. One will never be able to add to or edit His perfect creation. (Sadly, we have not kept it in very good condition.) We must open our eyes to see it, receive with our hearts and thank Him.
Jesus and His disciples had very little and yet they were content. Their inspiration came from Almighty God. The stirring within them was a blessing; it kept them going, sharing, talking and walking in His footsteps.
What is it that inspires you? Could it be Jesus? After all, He has done so much for us! There aren’t enough appropriate thank You cards to send. Our gratitude will have to suffice and out of that gratitude let us be inspired to share.
I think it is going to be a long time before I comment about not having inspiration.
Creator God, we thank You for the beauty and bounty that is before us. Fill our hearts with inexpressible joy and inspire us to share with others. AMEN.
