That Much Trust
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD. Psalm 89:15
My dear friends, I am sorry to say this, but I do not think I have that much trust! You see, on the other side of the window is a big, black cat switching his tail. However, this little goldfinch and dozens more come to the window box and feeders daily and fill up on sunflower seeds without hesitation.
We have no idea what is around the next corner as we casually stroll through our day. Some days we make it through without a hitch and then there are other days when our trust is tapped to the max. What would you do if you knew what was on the other side of that window? Most of us would freak out first and then call for help.
I believe that God does not let us see some of the scary things in life; He protects us and covers them from our vision. Of course, He does allow some visuals so that we can learn some life lessons.
How much trust do you have? Can you even measure it? Experience is a great yardstick! When I look back at some of the wild and crazy things that I did years ago, I knew there was a faithful God but I was too into myself to trust Him. Yet, He loved me enough to protect me and bring me out of a slippery, slimy pit.
If I were that bird at the window back then, I would have been quietly strategizing a way to get rid of the cat so that I could eat in peace. Today, I would be seeing my reflection in the glass and thanking God for the company.
Remembering where we have been builds faith. We all have had some horrific moments. He has brought us through and we have been given new insight and greater trust.
As we look at the Easter story, His disciples did not know what was going to happen—even when He tried to explain to them. They had to experience all of it. I am totally convinced that their trust level grew astronomically during that time.
That is all well and good because we know the end of the story and they were the story. Our faith grows when we share what Jesus has done for us. Get busy. Someone needs to hear your story.
Almighty God, You have been with us even when we were out of touch with You. You have shielded us from seeing the evil and harm that is around us and we are grateful people. Let us proclaim Your greatness! AMEN.
