Leave a Legacy
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16
In a couple of weeks Easter will be here and we will be celebrating the sacrifice Jesus made for each of us. As I was meditating on this event I also was thinking about the account of my own family and how my heritage has impacted my life today. Family members whom I never met, who made pilgrimages, fought wars, were farmers, doctors, teachers, and leaders in their communities helped influence me. We are all drenched in history and most of us don’t realize what the impact has been…or will be.
As I was contemplating my family of origin, it occurred to me that God is also part of my inheritance. These details which have been documented throughout the ages have brought me to where my heart is today. The story of God’s creation and His son, Jesus, His birth, and teachings have definitely been significant but most important is what Jesus sacrificed for me by going to the cross.
I realize that I will never know all the names of the people of my past, but I do know the name of Jesus and He knows me. He understands all of my trials and my successes. He has the complete history of not only my family but yours. He desires a personal relationship with all of us. It's not important to Him what station in life you have or your family history.
What matters most is that we currently have a relationship with Him. He asks for nothing but our trust. He’s laid out a beautiful plan for each of us. He has left a documented history of His perfect life in the Bible. Once we have that relationship with Him, our life changes in ways we can’t even imagine. An inner peace, a safe haven with Him, a place to feel rest and so much more is always available. He offers this to each of us and we just need to reach out and believe in Him.
Jesus left a legacy that will never be forgotten! We can leave one for our families! We know Him and belong to Him so we have lots to share. These are the words that I desire my family to speak over me: “She knew Jesus and by knowing Him, she lived the best life she knew how to live!”
Father, Thank You for Your love which was so great You offered Your only Son as our sacrificial Lamb. Our present and future belong to You. Help us to use them wisely. AMEN.
