Alone Is an Illusion

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

We all have felt that emptiness, nothingness and the desperation of solitude. My question is - what brought you out of that funk? Was it a caring friend who told you, “Hey, enough is enough!”? Maybe it was a verse you read or a song you heard. Perhaps it was a family intervention that woke you up enough to realize that you needed help.

My next question is this: What did you do to pull yourself free from the tight grip of the enemy? Was it counseling, spending time with friends, having a get-away weekend, or just taking a couple of days off? Those things probably all could help most of us. However, there is a problem because most of us have the mindset that if we would only try harder, we can conquer these feelings. This is stinkin’ thinkin’ that the enemy tries to force upon us.

We were never meant to live alone or isolated. We need a loving community of believers. Besides, the idea of being alone really is an illusion to keep us separated from our heavenly Father. At no time are we ever truly alone. We may not feel His Presence but He is still right there holding our hand. He gently motions for us to crawl out of our gloom.

You see, He never left us. We are the ones that somehow got derailed. I spent lots of time during my younger years getting back on track. My worldly desires took me on some interesting and dangerous adventures but He always showed me the way home. For me to get home, He had to have been there. He knew exactly where I was and it wasn’t always a pretty sight.

Our enemy enjoys it when we are feeling all alone in this world. He does a little gleeful dance. It’s okay to yell at him. Tell him in no uncertain terms, “I may feel lonely right now, but I am never alone. My God is with me forever and ever. So there!”

Never Alone

Father God, help me to grasp the truth of Your word and recognize feelings for what they are. Thank You for seeing the good in me and never letting go. AMEN.
