Believe in What You Believe

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

Rarely will you read a devotion from me that displays my soap box preaching. I am not coming in the back door today! Instead, I want this to be powerful one-two punch to your heart and to your head.

What do we believe? As Christians, where do we draw the line and say I am not budging?  Recently, I have heard about things happening that negate God’s Word and certainly the teachings of Jesus Christ and I asked someone.

This person had the nerve to tell me bluntly and boldly: “You are just an unfeeling, old conservative! If you were just a little more up to date and compassionate, you would accept what is happening in the world today.” By the time I had picked my chin up off the floor, I was ready for a show-down and wanted to come out with guns blazing!

The Holy Spirit restrained me! I had to stop and ask, Father, what am I going to say to this person? …. Silence.  I finally responded by saying, “I will not be changing my mind because I believe what I believe but I will be changing my attitude.” The conversation ended and I walked away. I am sure they were left wondering what I meant. At least there was no blood shed and I did not have to apologize.

Do we believe what we believe in? So often, our head says one thing but our heart says something else which bobbles our boundaries. The days are coming when we are going to have to stand firm for that in which we believe. To stand firm, with humility and a gracious spirit is a challenge.

Has our faith has been diluted by current events and those peddlers of questionable propaganda? Returning to the Father and asking for the strength to stand firm for Him is our only option.

This I Believe

Go out in the love, joy and the peace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. AMEN.
