Don’t Cut Corners
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, LORD. They rejoice in your name all day long. They celebrate your righteousness. Psalm 89:15-16
We have become very good at cutting corners and skimping. We want to move on to the next thing before we even finish what is before us. How often do we find ourselves thinking about buying groceries or the next sporting event or an upcoming vacation during our prayers or devotions. One little dinging bell on my watch can grab my attention and pull me away from God’s Word. But He is not like that and desires quality time with us.
When your mind wanders, bring it back into focus but don’t skimp on your time with your loving Father. There have been numerous times when I have not recaptured those precious quiet moments and for me, that produces guilt. I know better but since I’ve already started down that selfish path, I just keep going and say, “I’ll catch up with You later.”
If you are truthful, you will add a big YUP to that!
Perhaps it all comes down to prioritizing our time. Who is most important in our lives? Is it you, your spouse, children etc. or is it God? You only get once choice and this is not a trick question. Anything we put ahead of Him results in selfishness. Have you ever thought of yourself as a selfish person? I try not to picture myself as the center of my world but it is difficult.
We often make more time for ourselves and family time than we do for Him. Yet, He is the foundation of everything we have and who we are. Cutting corners with God takes away the sacrifice of time that truly pleases Him. The tasks ahead of us will scream for attention but we must resist.
Being in relationship with God hopefully creates a deep desire to stay in His Presence and put all the plans for the day on the back burner. Of course, reality yells loudly as well. To whom do we respond?
Letting the Light of His Presence soak into us is so refreshing and revitalizing. He does not skimp or cut corners with us. Aren’t you glad?
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Help us to be more like You every day. AMEN.
