A Cat with a Plan

For I know the plans I have for you… Jeremiah 29:11

Cats are likened to retirement. They do what they want to do and when they want to do it. If they don’t feel like it, the only thing that may intrigue them is food (or a toy depending on the age of the feline.) They tend to enjoy motion and the chase, and will gladly share a bat, bee, bird, mouse or even a snake that they’ve caught. Not that you are interested in their disgusting conquests, but they tend to be prideful and seek kudos.

The longer you have your cat, the more your personalities blend. You learn to communicate. As you take care of all their needs, the bond grows deeper and deeper. After several years together, that day comes when their health will not improve, and you are faced with the decision of keeping them alive or ending their pain. The decision is made, and your heart is broken.

You house seems emptier than usual, and the conversations are now one-sided. There is no purring motor, no petting or illogical meowing at 3AM. Instead, life seems a little lonely. Crying out to God brings some comfort but it is not the same as the furry companion you grew to love and laugh with daily. Time passes slowly even though you try to stay busy. Evenings are the worst.

Then the family gets together for the holidays and mentions this beautiful two-year old cat that needs to find a new home. Should? It has only been a few short weeks. What if…? You can’t think of enough excuses not to do this good deed.

The day arrives and the getting to know you begins. There are moments of “What was I thinking?” and other moments involving fits of laughter as you watch your younger furry friend explore her new home.

God is so merciful and caring. He knew just what you needed and when you needed it. He provided a cat with a mission to bring joy, laughs, giggles, companionship, tender moments and her own suitcase full of new adventures.

Personally, I believe that she is one blessed cat!

We all (humans to microscopic organisms) have a mission in this life. God has planted something special in each of us. What a mighty God we serve!

What a Mighty God We Serve

Gracious Father, thank You for the talent, passion and dreams You have placed in our hearts. May we use them every day to promote Your kingdom here on earth. Amen.
