Wholeheartedly
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 (NIV)
ME: I love living in a small village up here in the mountains. I am much closer to nature and I am excited to get out of bed every morning and look out the windows.
JESUS: I knew you would enjoy it!
ME: It makes me feel far away from the world’s problems. I know they still exist, but I don’t have the same overwhelming sense of urgency that I once felt.
JESUS: Can you hear what you are saying? You are learning to follow me wholeheartedly and every day I give you glad anticipation that quickens your pace. Yes, the life you now lead is slower which gives you more time to reflect on Me.
ME: Jesus, my mind plays tricks on me and tries to tell me I am still a younger girl. I often find out the hard way as I rub my sore muscles and joints with Pain Away. I still want to see and do it all.
JESUS: I am well aware of your limitations and desires—even more than you. But remember that I give you strength in many ways.
ME: I am thankful that my days start with total anticipation and joy even when I don’t know what is going to happen.
JESUS: You don’t know what lies ahead, I know; and that is enough! Some of My richest blessings are just around the bend: out of sight, but nonetheless very real. To receive those gifts, you must walk by faith—not by sight. This doesn’t mean closing your eyes to what is all around you. It means subordinating the visible world to the invisible Shepherd of your soul.
ME: Trying to do that is not easy sometimes. There are days when I feel like I’m rock climbing.
JESUS: The higher you climb with Me, the more keenly you sense your separation from the worldly problems. Give yourself fully to these Glory-moments.
ME: Jesus, we have had quite a few of these times, haven’t we?
JESUS: Yes, and I have always led you down the mountain, back into community with others. Let My Light continue to shine within you as you walk among your village.
ME: But I don’t know very many people yet.
JESUS: I will open doors. You just keep shining.
