False Narrative
I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. Romans 16:17-18
Every day in my devotion time, I read the news. I certainly do not enjoy opening that app on my phone anymore but it always gives me a boatload of things for which to pray.
Today as I read an entire news article, buried in the last few paragraphs was a comment by someone who is present in all the fighting. He said in effect, this is not true—it’s not accurate. What are we to believe? Who is telling the truth in all of this? Is there any truth to be found?
We do know this much: God’s Word is the truth. However, sometimes I feel like it isn’t enough or that He is not moving fast enough to protect and save all the innocent. In the war zones, the food, water, fuel and medical care are not meeting the needs of those trapped and the hostages. Is He meeting their spiritual needs? How are they surviving?
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:29-31, NIV)
I must believe that He is right there in the trenches, in the over-crowed, non-functional hospitals, at the bedsides of the children in pain and holding the hand of the grieving widow. It is imperative that we believe He hasn’t just walked off the scene in total frustration with our behavior as human beings.
He has a plan, and He will not let us go. Our part is to hang on to Him and not loosen our grip. Our compassion levels run very high where seniors, women, and children are involved. But so does His!
Thankfully I am not God. Today, we must remember that this is not our battle. He is the Warrior King who will bring the victory.
The Battle Belongs to the Lord
Mighty God, we thank You for being the Defender of Your children. Help us to believe Your Promise found in Genesis 28:15 (NIV): “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” AMEN.
