Choosing Joy
And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Luke 2:10
Last week we distributed Giant Food gift cards to schools and social service agencies to give to families in need of help purchasing food for Christmas. One of the social workers who came to the church to pick up the cards and will give them directly to families said, “Please thank your congregation! This fills my heart with joy and gratitude because I know how much the help is needed by the families we serve.” She saw the Shining Star fliers on a table and asked if she could take some. As I handed them to her she said, “My co-workers and I have to be a part of giving to this next year, we want to be a part of the blessing!” We both had tears in our eyes as we wished each other a merry Christmas and said goodbye.
What a privilege it is to share with others in tangible ways, what God has given to us. When we reflect God’s generosity, we please the Lord, experience the joy of giving and trust that we have made a family’s Christmas a bit brighter.
If you haven’t done so yet, consider donating to a local food bank or organization that provides food to families in need, as you are able. As you enjoy Christmas with family and friends, reflect on all the ways God has empowered you to share His love and joy.
Father God, thank You for the gift of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ, He is our source of joy. May our actions bring joy to others, and glory to Him. Amen.
