Answering a Question with a Question
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”…“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Matthew 16:13, 15
ME: Jesus, why didn’t people recognize who You were? Why did it take so long for them to figure this out? How come some totally ignored You?
JESUS: Each of your questions would take Me years to answer but I will try to make this clear to you. “Who do you say I am?”
ME: Jesus, You can’t trick me. That is what You asked Peter and he said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” I say the same thing.
JESUS: Why do you say that?
ME: Because Your Word tells me that. Your death and resurrection prove who You are.
JESUS: What have I proven to you?
ME: Well, being willing to die for my sins even before I was ever born makes You amazing! I love You because You first loved me.
JESUS: How do you know this to be the truth, My child?
ME: Because over and over You tell me how much You love me by providing, protecting and showering me with incredible blessings. Besides, You don’t lie. You can’t lie. What’s with all these questions?
JESUS: I asked questions to make you think and come to the only possible conclusion. Yes, you are loved and will always be loved. I am who you say I am; but there is more. Can you tell Me?
ME: Not sure! I think I have covered pretty much everything. What did I miss?
JESUS: What do I mean to you?
ME: Everything!
JESUS: You have said it well. Because you have answered justly, take it to the next level. You are a giving and compassionate child of Mine. Why not share what you have with everyone?
ME: There You go with the questions again.
JESUS: Yes, but I got your attention, didn’t I?
Loving Lord, You are exactly everything You said You are, and more. Thank You for not giving up on us when we question You and can’t seem to find our way. AMEN.
