Recount
I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. Psalm 9:1 (ESV)
When I think about all the awesomeness of God, I am overcome with joy! I am not talking about the day-to-day events, but the glorious things that He has done. I want to recount them with others but can’t always find my voice. Tricia Goyer (Mornings with Jesus) has shared her view of recounting and I think we all need to retake that class.

The word recount has echoed through my mind this past year. As the whole world focused on life during and after quarantine, our family had pressing issues that had nothing to do with a worldwide pandemic. We discovered our teen daughter needed more help for emotional trauma than we could give. As awareness of her needs increased, I became desperate for help. I sought counselors and programs to help her. I also sought counseling help for myself.
In my need for help and answers, I made a list of all the ways Jesus has helped and guided our family. No matter how challenging things have been, Jesus has never failed us. When I feel emotionally, mentally, and physical exhausted, recounting Jesus’s provision has helped me to hang on when I wanted to give up.
Another thing worth recounting is the fact that Jesus is worthy to be praised no matter how hard life is at any given moment. As Psalm 86:12 (ESV) says, “I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.”
The best way to understand how Jesus can help and guide us is to look back to all the ways He’s helped and guided us in the past and to praise Jesus even when things are hard.
I Will Sing of the Mercies of the Lord Forever
FAITH STEP: Make a list of three ways Jesus has helped and guided you or your family this year. Then sped a few minutes thanking and praising Jesus—glorifying His name.
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us and taking care of us—even when we don’t deserve it. You have abundantly blessed us in so many ways. Help us to find our voices to share with others. AMEN.
