Tell Me Again

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34

ME:  Jesus, I am having a hard time with something.

JESUS: What is on your mind?

ME: I just can’t seem to be able to stay in today. I worry about upcoming events and all the things on my to-do list that I didn’t accomplish. Tell me again. What am I supposed to do?

JESUS: First, let’s get something straight; when I said, do not worry about tomorrow, it is not a mild suggestion. I am giving you a direct order. This is what I want you to do—stop stressing about things.

ME: I understand what You’re saying but I don’t know how to do it. It is like faulty wiring and the switch doesn’t work anymore.

JESUS: Ok, look at it this way: I am asking you to trust Me at all times and pour out your heart to Me. Can you do that?

ME: I am trying to do that right now, but I feel a little stymied for words to explain how I feel.

JESUS: Maybe that is part of your problem. This is not about how you feel, you must just do what I ask. Obey Me…please.

ME: I want to be obedient but worry and anxiety crowd You out.

JESUS: Listen, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. You may not think you can, but I am here telling you that with My help, you can learn a better way to live. Also, My sufficiency is for only one day at a time.

ME: Why can’t you cover the future too? Wait, …are You saying I’m weak?

JESUS: If I did that, you would not need Me or My guidance and yes, you have not worked this out yet. When you worry about the future, you heap day upon day of troubles onto your flimsy frame. You even stagger under this heavy load, which I never intended for you in the first place.

ME: I want to be free, but I don’t know how to get there.

JESUS: Your anxious thoughts meander about and crisscross in your brain. Trusting in Me brings you directly into My Presence. Isn’t that where you want to be?

ME: You know I do—but how?

JESUS: It is really quite simple. Trust Me at all times. Obey me.

ME: How about most of the time?

JESUS: I’ll take that for starters.
