David’s Question
The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. Psalm 103:19
I do a great deal of journaling every day but I have never made a statement like David. Maybe we all should start being proactive instead of reactive. When troubles come—and they will—what are we going to do? Max Lucado (excerpted from Because of Bethlehem) emphasizes that David didn’t chew his nails or whimper in fear. He stood tall.

In the prayer journal of King David, we read this question: “When the foundations for good collapse, what can good people do?” (Psalm 11:13 NCV).
Isn’t David’s question ours? When all that is good falls apart, what can good people do?
When terrorists attack, when diseases rage, when families collapse, when churches divide…when all that is good falls apart, what can good people do? What is the godly response to the unexpected mishaps and calamities of life?
Curiously, David didn’t answer his question with an answer. He answered it with a declaration. “The LORD is in His holy temple. The LORD is on His throne in heaven”.
His point is unmistakable: When everything shakes, God remains unshaken. He is in His holy temple. His plan will not be derailed. God is unaffected by our storms. He is undeterred by our problems. We don’t have to be worried about our worries. The Lord is on the throne.

Of course, David had some serious flaws, but he knew his source of life and how to please God. At times, he just chose not to do the right thing. Aren’t we all a little like David? He always found his way back to the throne room. So can we!
Heavenly Father, thank You for staying close beside us. We get all tangled up in our own free will and we need You more and more in this world today. Help us to be strong like David. Help us to make declarations about Your love and mercy to everyone we meet. AMEN.
