Tugs of Divinity

Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. Psalm 34:5

ME: Jesus, I always seem to be searching for more of something, but I don’t know exactly what. I feel closest to You when we have these conversations, and I can be honest with You. There really is something missing.

JESUS: Seek My face and you will find all that you have longed for.

ME: But Jesus, I can’t do that all the time because I would never get anything else accomplished. That isn’t even realistic…is it?

JESUS: My precious child, the deepest yearnings of your heart are for intimacy with Me. I know because I designed you to desire Me. Don’t feel guilty about taking time to be still in My Presence.

ME: That’s easy for You to say. Have You looked at my TO-DO list recently?

JESUS: I know what you are dealing with, so I strongly encourage you to seek My Face. Your hunger is what I refer to as tugs of divinity within you. I made you in My image, and hid heaven in your heart. Your yearning for Me is a form of homesickness: longing for your true home in heaven.

ME: Oh my! Jesus, do others feel this way?

JESUS: Does it matter? Do not be afraid to be different from other people.

ME: But they will think of me as weird or something.

JESUS: And your point is what? Should I have made you all alike?

ME: Of course not, but…

JESUS: The path I have called you to travel is exquisitely right for you. The more fully you follow My leading, the more fully I can develop your gifts.

ME: Will this uneasy feeling of longing go away.

JESUS: Now think about your question: do you think that spending more time with Me will quench your thirst?

ME: Not really because I can never get enough of You this side of heaven.

JESUS: That is right. However, your closeness to Me will bless others by enabling you to shine brightly in this dark world.

ME: So, I just live with this longing?

JESUS: It keeps you coming back again and again—doesn’t it?
