Renewed

Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2

Let’s say you have an original masterpiece painting in your home. As you are cleaning one day, you decide that this old dusty picture has seen better days, so you throw it out for the garbage truck to haul away. As the artwork lies in the trash, people passing by are shocked that such a fine piece would be thrown away. Then someone stops, picks it out of the trash, and brings it home. After discovering the significance of his find, he is elated.

“Ridiculous!” you might say; “That would never happen!” But today many of us are making an even greater mistake. We are God’s priceless masterpieces. And yet we often think we are useless, without worth, insignificant. We might struggle with low self-esteem, thinking that we have to measure up to the world’s standards of greatness, success, and status to have value. The enemy has deceived us into believing a lie.

How can we trade the lie for the truth? Paul calls us to “be transformed by the renewing of our mind.” We are called to replace our ungodly beliefs with godly ones. The truth is that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14), created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). God values us so much that He sent His Son into the world to redeem us.

Lord Jesus, thank You for valuing each of us so much. As we meditate on God’ truths, please renew and transform our minds, hearts and lives. In Your name we pray. Amen.
