The Same Jesus
He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. Psalm 107:29
Recently, I have experienced a few storms but none were strong enough to throw me overboard. I hung on and heard that same voice that spoke to the storm. While my own personal pain was great, I still sensed my life-vest snugly wrapped around me and tied to Him. Yes, the same Jesus. Sharon Hincks (Mornings with Jesus) has a great message. Open your hearts and listen.

This morning when I turned on the news, there was a hurricane approaching the East Coast, massive forest fires in California, earthquakes, shark attacks, and epidemics, I clicked off the television thinking the world had become like all the worst disaster movies rolled into one.
Life can feel stormy sometimes. There are the big-picture waves affecting the world at large. As my viewing of the news showed me, those calamities can be frequent and troubling.
There are rumbles of thunder for me too. I worry about my husband’s cancer, my kids who are out of work, the progression of a loved one’s Alzheimer’s disease. My boat is tiny, and the waves are big. Lightening crackles and fear churns in my heart.
Until I remember Jesus!
The same Jesus who spoke from the boat when His disciples battled huge waves on the Sea of Galilee speaks to the scary things in my life too. The same Jesus who rose victorious to grant the world salvation promises that He is with us and is completing His purposes no matter how stormy the world looks.
The sea of struggle remains. I’m still worried about my husband’s cancer, my kids who are looking for jobs, and my loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. But I’ve been in the boat with Jesus long enough to know the howling wind stills to a whisper in obedience to His command. As I let Him speak to my own troubled heart, I find those waves are calmed inside my soul as well.
Lord Jesus, thank You for being with us. We may grumble about Your timing, but You always show up. Just as Your frightened disciples needed Your calming words to guide them through their storms, we do as well. AMEN.
