Out of the Darkness

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9

As the shadows lengthened and the lights began to dim, I was blessed to observe an incredible drama of nature unfold. I looked toward the woods and saw only multiple shades of greens and dark browns. I just stood at the window and watched quietly. Suddenly, there was a little flick of white. Waiting for something to happen did not take long.

A beautiful deer stepped out of the darkness of the evening forest. He was cautious. Sniffed the air and looked all around. Then, he took a few steps forward. I was home alone and knew nothing should disturb this beauty.

This part of the drama continued for a couple of minutes until he was totally out in the open. I began to see more white slivers of activity. From the darkness came four others and then a couple of fawns. Not one moved past the first one.

It seemed as if they needed the ‘green light’ to come out of hiding. They were cautious, but they came. Before it grew too dark to see, I counted seven altogether. They ate peacefully in the field.

Isn’t this just like us? We carefully step out of the darkness and into His marvelous light. Should we decide to stay in the forest, we become easy prey. Our nourishment declines and we are parched for water.

The great news for us is that we have a Savior who motions to us; inviting us to: “Come, taste and see!” He boldly steps out and makes a safe way for each of us. All we must do is follow.

God Will Make a Way

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing up and for personally helping me to recall scripture verses that relate to nature and Your creation. Teach us to follow You and wait for Your perfect timing. AMEN.
