Our Storm-Tossed Life

Casting all of your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

Cast your burden on the Lord and He will sustain you; never allowing the righteous to be shaken. Psalm 55:22

Such good news!

But life is not always easy. We all go through bouts of confusion, pain, anxiety, and worry. In my time of grief, I have always had a sense of being taken care of and I am grateful. But this inner feeling has puzzled me.

Today I understand that God has always had His hands on me. He has guarded me through many events in my life. His hand is called the Holy Spirit.

I am now in the later years of my life and have been through several trials that have not always been comfortable. I have often asked, ‘why me?’ especially when I have been in those deep, dark valleys of hurting.

As I look back, I can see that my thinking was immature. I now realize how God was preparing me for my future. Being honest with you, I am thankful for friends and family that have reminded me of where I once was and just how far I’ve come. We all have a story to tell!

I am beginning to understand how God teaches us how to navigate through our trials and disappointments. Through our trials and our faith, we can become teachers or disciplers to others who find themselves in despair.

Remember, from those trials He also provides blessings. God’s Son, Jesus Christ, is my Guide, my Teacher, my Comforter and my daily safety net.

David’s songs found in God’s Word (in the Psalms) are such a blessing. They help me better understand my journey. We are guided through life with His unlimited Love when we first seek Him.

Eye of the Storm

Father, our life does have its trials and we don’t always understand. But Your promise for us is that You are standing with us.  Teach us to lean into Your truths, love, and find joy in all things. Help us to seek You—especially when our burdens seem unbearable. AMEN.
