God at Work in Us
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
Years ago, a child in our congregation asked me, “Do you like working for God?” With a smile I replied, “I love it!’ What I thought was, God is doing a lot more work in me than I will ever do for Him, and the above verse from Ephesians came to mind.
The word that is used for workmanship is really the word poem. We are his poem. It has also been translated as; we are His masterpiece. God is working in our lives to reveal His wisdom, His power, His love, His life, His character, His peace, and His joy. He is teaching us, training us, transforming us so that we are beautiful reflections of Jesus Christ. This results in good works: kindness, love, mercy, compassion, help to one another, meeting one another's needs - all to God’s glory!
This Labor Day weekend think of the work you do and how it is a reflection of God’s good work in you!
Thank You, Father, that You have prepared good works for us to do, through the power of your Spirit. May we live in joy and expectation about how You will show Your continuing work in us every day. Amen.
