The Adventures of Today
Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. Colossians 3:2
Are you ready for a new adventure? Every day I get excited about what is in store for me. I know that it could be challenges of monstrous size but I also know that He has brought through other situations. Great is his faithfulness; his loving-kindness begins afresh each day (Lamentations 3:23, TLB).
Have you ever pondered this verse and the depth of His loving care? When the alarm clock shakes you from your restful sleep, He already has your day planned. The adventure begins long before you open your eyes. Actually, it began long before the world was created; you just had to wait for your time.
We have no clue what each 24-hour period will hold, but we have One who holds our hand through each second. Perhaps our day will unfold with a promotion, or a layoff. Maybe our well-check will give great news, or some abnormalities. The day might dawn with a spectacular sunrise and turn into a category 5 hurricane. Every one of these is an adventure. Are you ready?
Keeping our focus on heaven is not an easy task. Well, let me rephrase that; during the rough moments, it isn’t easy-peasy. On those bright and sunny days when everything seems to be right within our own little world, we tend to forget to focus on heaven. So when do we think about eternity?
If we spent too much time thinking about earthly things, we would all be curled up in a fetal position in a psych ward. Our world is a scary place right now. I try to remind myself that I am just passing through and that this is not my forever home. That tends to ease my spiritual anxiety. Even though Scripture tells us, do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6, ESV), I have not passed that test yet.
Adventure keeps us on our toes! While His faithfulness is new every morning, so are all our adventures with Him.
Have an exciting day!
Loving Father, thank You for Your willingness to hold our hand every moment of every day. Give us the insight to take it and to focus on You and Your faithfulness. Guide us through each adventure. AMEN.
