They Like the Grow Lights
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5
My plants were not doing well. Carrots, my kitten, tipped over more than I care to count and I was constantly sweeping up dirt and re-potting my beauties. So, we came up with a solution; we moved them all to our large upstairs bathroom and bought grow lights. Plus, we now shut the door quickly so he cannot get in and romp around. I am thrilled to tell you that are all thriving!
As I was watering them this morning, I thought about the grow lights. This room only gets limited afternoon sunshine and these plants need more than that. The lights come on at 6AM and go off at 6PM.
All of us need a grow light—continuously! As we journey through life, our days are not always sunny, and chances are we don’t even get full sun when there isn’t a cloud in our skies. (Ponder that for a moment!)
We have a continuous grow Light! He is often referred to as the Light of the world. He has no timer switch but is turned on all the time. All we must do is have the desire to grow. This is where we sometimes fall short. Being so busy with daily ‘stuff’, we forget about His availability, and we plow through our day on our own power then wonder why we are exhausted.
Growing in His Light is natural. He lights our path. His Light removes darkness and shadows that otherwise scare us. He is the Light on the hill—not hidden. Yet, we must think about these things before we can let go of our thoughts and agendas and simply grow. These are not usually our first thoughts at the beginning of each day. Maybe it’s not so natural after all.
Perhaps we all could use a little plant and a grow light to remind us of what is continuously available to us. Growing in faith takes us to new places, introduces us to new friends, gives us patience with difficult people, helps us love more and opens the door for blooming out of season.
By the way, we got the grow lights at Wal-Mart, but His Light costs us nothing!
Gracious God, thank You for being our Light. Please help us to recognize and seek You on sunny days and in our dark moments. Give us the desire to grow in You. AMEN.
