Keep Your Focus
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Colossians 3:2 (ESV)
Just a few days until Thanksgiving and the pressure is on! Black Friday sales are already beginning, and we haven’t even caught a whiff of turkey with trimmings! The calendar is quickly filling, and the bank account is rapidly dwindling as we list out all the ‘most wanted’ gifts for friends and family.
In God’s perfect plan, I cannot begin to imagine that this is what He had in mind for us. There are stretches when my life looks likes the picture above and I can almost hear Him saying, “My precious child, keep your focus on Me. Stop playing with the lens.”
But are we able to slow down and catch that current to His perfect peace? That takes determination, practice, and some seriously quiet moments. We must have a desire to spend time with Him. However, our busy schedule of holiday hosting, entertaining and that ‘s-word’ (shopping) take a bite out of life. We are doomed to making phone calls, lists, erase, returning, reordering, and experiencing exhaustion and it is only the week before Thanksgiving.
Here are just a few suggestions that might be helpful:
Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Proverbs 4:25
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. Proverbs 16:3
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3
Therefore, we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. Hebrews 2:1
In this messy world, we have so much for which to be thankful! We are blessed people if we would or could only take the time to believe it and live a testimonial life of all the Lord has done for us.
Give thanks with all that is within you and praise Him for His mighty deeds. I truly believe that the clamor of the upcoming season with melt away like the first snowfall of the season.
Loving Lord, help our feeble, human minds remember who You are, to focus, and stay close to You every step of the way today, and the days to come. AMEN.
