A Chorus of Joy

The morning stars sang together, and all the angels shouted for joy. Job 38:7 (NLT)

I love to read devotions that help me think about Christmas! So often I am pushed by my TO-DO List during this busy season that I forget the important things. Have you ever stopped to wonder what happened as Jesus entered our world? Ponder this for a moment. Did all nature sing while heaven rejoiced? What a delightful symphony that must have been! Liz Kimmel (Mornings with Jesus) has a message that reminds us to joyfully sing along as we hear heaven and nature sing!

Twelve-year-old Brecken loves to sing. She’ll sing in the car, in the shower, in her room, definitely at church, and just about anywhere it’s appropriate for her to do so. While visiting her grandmother’s home one day, she couldn’t keep the melodies in. At Grandma Carol’s suggestion, Brecken went out onto the upper deck, which overlooks a wooded pond. As the exuberant song began to flow from her granddaughter’s spirit, Carol noticed many of the birds in the neighborhood joined in. What started as one young girl opening her heart to the expanse of nature transformed into a beautiful symphony of trills, tweets, twitters, and whistles.

Because there were many kinds of birds in the nearby trees, you might think the sound was a cacophony of chaos. Instead, it was a masterpiece of creative expression. Carol noticed that when Brecken stopped singing, so did the bird chorus. But as soon as she picked up the melody again, her feathered friends joined in. Brecken and Carol tested this out several times to make sure they were hearing correctly. It proved to be the case every time.

Now, when Brecken visits, she asks her grandma, “Do you think I should go out and sing with the birds again?”

This is a lovely reminder of what happens when we join our voices together to honor God. When our anthems of praise are lifted in unity, all of creation joins in. What an awesome performance of joy, one I hope blesses the heart of the King.

Loving Lord, You are an awesome Lord! Thank You, God of all Creation, for birthing in me a desire to praise and glorify Your name. What a joy when, together, our praises are magnified and the whole world is witness to the wonder. AMEN.

Joy to the World
