Getting Ready for Christmas

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2

ME: Jesus, my words are not coming easily today. I am tired and yet excited all at the same time. Almost all the gifts have been purchased (except two) and some are even wrapped. I didn’t go overboard this year like I have in the past. I’m grateful but something isn’t quite right. I’m like Carrots, I want to be left alone and sleep.

JESUS: You have been very busy, and I have been missing you.

ME:  Wait! What?...I’ve done all my devotions and even written some.

JESUS: But you have not spent quality time with Me. You have been focusing on the world’s sparkly, cheap view of the season. It is all about Me! Not gifts, decorations, baking, or all the other things you are doing to get ready for Christmas.

ME: Please forgive me. Once again, You are right and I have fallen short.

JESUS: I do forgive you and want you to use this as a life lesson. The world’s idea of Christmas will wear you out, but not Me. I am the Light of the world. When you are tired and run down, remember that you have done this to yourself. I carry your burdens, but you must bring them to Me. I will not drain your bank account by making impulsive decisions. I am the Anchor of your soul, but again, first you must desire to stop drifting.

ME: That is comforting today!

JESUS: It should be. If you are truly getting ready for Christmas, My birthday, your heart will be joyful and light. I know of the world’s problems, yes, but I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world (John 16:33, ESV). Celebrate Me! Forget the tinsel, wrapping paper and last-minute shopping.

ME: Wow, I have truly missed You. Now I know why I have been so tired. I’ve been busy with the wrong things.

JESUS: Gift giving is not wrong but remember Me in each purchase. It will make a difference.

ME: But I am done for this year.

JESUS: As you give your gifts, think of Me.

ME: I can do that.

JESUS: I know! Just don’t forget to remember Me.
