Life in the Country
Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. Philippians 4:11-12
I love living in the country! I’m ending where I started. If anyone had told me ten years ago that I would be married and back in Tioga County, I would have called them crazy. But here I am and I’m enjoying life to the fullest.
So, this is a pile of free deer corn that was dumped in the Arnot Sport Club’s parking lot. A big 18-wheeler pulled in with these treasures. All we had to do was show up with shovels and sturdy bags. It was an extremely cold day—only about 7°. Friendly folks were helping each other make quick work of the task.
In our garage, we have made use of an old (non-working) freezer and it keeps the mice out. It now lays on its side and is stuffed with corn. I pull out 8-10 ears each morning and afternoon for our visitors.
Life is very different living in rural America. People just don’t seem to care about the current styles or titles. At best, they are most concerned with trophy rainbow trout and biggest antlers. Many do not watch the news nor do they talk about what is going on in the world. I think they care, but they keep their thoughts to themselves.
What do country people do for fun? Well, church is a big part of life up here. This is where we love on our friends, talk about our week, share in Bible studies, snack together, make music with voices and bells, read good books, and take care of /pray for each other. Of course, there are other arts if desired: music, quilting, acting/drama, and all spectator sports are available.
The truth is this: We need each other. The church is our life.
For me, there is no lack of things to do. I do the things I enjoy and the pace is just right. My needs are being met by loving on others (including deer and birds).
That is what life in the country is all about!
This song says it best. Take Me Back
Father, thank You for Your love and patience. You are so worthy of our praise and yet at times we act like You are a stranger. Please help us to be satisfied no matter where we are in life. AMEN.
