Singing in the Rain
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! Psalm 95:1-2 (ESV)
ME: What a joy to know that spring is coming soon! Punxsutawney Phil told us so.
JESUS: Really?
ME: But You know that early spring rain makes me cold and my joints rebel this time of year. It dampens my spirit leaving me chilled to the bone and feeling miserable.
JESUS: Okay.
ME: I never know what to wear because You change the weather constantly. The news said a nor’easter was headed our way with 6-9 inches and we didn’t even see one snowflake.
JESUS: And this bothers you?
ME: Well, I was hoping for some beautiful, white stuff.
JESUS: Seriously? Have you thought of praying for those who are getting the “white stuff?” The homeless and stranded? Seems to me that a thank You is more in order than filing this complaint.
ME: Oh, I am not finding fault or blaming You for anything. I am just talking to You and sharing my thoughts. Look, I am still learning to smile and sing even when I feel disappointed or miserable but it’s a tough row to hoe.
JESUS: Really? That is why I encourage you to be thankful in the difficult moments and to dance and sing love songs even when you don’t feel loving or loveable.
ME: But Jesus, some days I can barely walk…and You want me to dance too?
JESUS: Your heart does not have arthritis!
ME: Oh, I get it! I can sing and dance for You in my heart and spirit.
JESUS: Yes. And while you are making improvements, being content may help lighten your “heavy” load. Remember who I am. I am Your Creator, sovereign and with you all the time. Sometimes You forget that and just think of Me as your Friend. I am that, too! But I am much more.
ME: Jesus, please forgive me for the familiarity. I am so embarrassed and ashamed for whining and complaining. Please forgive me.
JESUS: My child, of course I forgive you. I love you. I am glad that you came to me instead of grousing in front of others.
ME: I would never do that!
JESUS: Really?
