Good Friday Prayer

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24

Jesus, our Lord and our God,

You gave Your cheek to those who struck You and for our sake You endured the pain and shame of the cross.

May we never take for granted this gift of love beyond all human comprehension. Forgive us when our hearts have been cold toward You. By the power of the Holy Spirit, rekindle our love for You, as we contemplate the deep mystery that by each wound inflicted on You, we have been healed. Sin, evil, and death did their worst, but You prevailed - You declared Love’s work is done when You said, “It is finished.”

Forever we will, in humility and gratitude, thank You most gracious Lord and God. Amen.
