Mustard-Seed Sized Brain

[Jesus] replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 (NIV)

Recently I heard someone say (in humor) that their brain was the size of a mustard seed. My mind raced to this verse about faith moving mountains on a single command. Faith and our brain are two distinctly different things but I like this mustard seed idea. Although how anyone could cram all the facts, trivia and crazy thoughts into anything that small is beyond me!

The human brain is a little bigger than this pictured seed and is about 5.5 x 6.5 x 3.6 inches which means it can hold lots of information, give us emotions and process all kinds of events. The brain is like a fine working computer…until it’s not.

On the other hand, a field full of mustard is a beyond my words. I stand amazed at how a tiny little seed(s) can spread such beauty.  

What is in our mustard seed-sized brain? Are we eager to break open and germinate our fields with joy, peace, love, kindness, patience? Are we bursting at the seams to pray for others? Sing praises to His name and meditate on His Word?  What could we do with that kind of faith?

Faith the size of this puny seed is enough to tell a mountain to high-tail it into the sea. That, my friends, is power! If our larger brains could just capture some of that faith, we could do so much more for the Kingdom.

We must increase our faith. But my brain says, “Does not compute!” There seems to be a glitch in my system somewhere. I falter and then see the flashing sign: Please call for technical support! The Holy Spirit is available 24/7 and will assist you.”

We can talk freely with the Tech Assistant (Holy Spirit) about the faith we have or the faith we would like to have, and it’s all done without judgement. We never have to feel technically challenged with Him.

Whether we view our brains as human sized computers or mustard-seed sized faith giants, our walk will germinate every single day. Look for the evidence.

Faith As Small As a Mustard Seed

Father God, we thank You for this message of faith. Help us to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to use all our resources, big or small, to do Your will with great love. AMEN.
