Resting in Grace This Summer

Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Psalm 62:1

As the warmth of summer envelops us and beautiful blue skies delight us, it's a reminder of the beauty of rest. In the midst of busy schedules and endless to-do lists, God calls us to find rest in Him. Summer often beckons us to slow down, to enjoy special moments with family and friends, and to find pleasure in a good book and an iced tea.

Times of rest are a gift from God! In the book of Psalms, we find numerous verses that speak of finding rest in God's presence. When we pause to seek God amidst the busyness of life, we discover a profound sense of peace that transcends understanding. Just as summer provides a season for nature to rejuvenate and flourish, so too does resting in God's presence allow us to recharge our spirits and find renewed strength. As we embrace the upcoming days of summer, let's also embrace the opportunity to draw near to God and find rest in His presence. Here are a few practical ways to rest in God this summer:

·      Set aside quiet time: Carve out moments in your day to spend in prayer, meditation, and reading Scripture. Allow God's Word to soothe your soul and bring you peace.

·      Simplify your schedule: Summer offers a chance to pare down our commitments and focus on what truly matters. Prioritize rest and relaxation, allowing yourself to recharge both physically and spiritually.

·      Connect with nature: Spend time outdoors, marveling at the beauty of God's creation. Whether it's a leisurely stroll in the park or a quiet moment by the beach, let the sights and sounds of nature remind you of God's presence and amazing gifts!

God, you made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you. – Augustine

Lord God, help us to spend time with You this summer, refreshing our hearts and restoring our souls, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
