Guilty As Charged
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
What is the meaning of this verse…especially the words: “Alive and active?” I search online to find biblical sites that explain verses. I talk with others and do studies that are offered in my church, praying that God will make His Word come alive in me. But does it last or become part of me? Or does it fade away because I don’t give it serious thought. Does it even pertain to me?
We refer to the Bible as “The Word of God” and know it as the foundation of our faith. Do we understand and apply it? Maybe they’re just beautiful words. We think, ‘That’s nice! and go on our merry way—not letting His Word truly affect our mind, heart, or attitude. Perhaps for a moment we try, but it just fades away, and we return to our sinful nature.
I am guilty. My attitude is like comparing it to Valentine cards which say, “I love You, and you are mine always.” We smile and sometimes a tear will fall while reading the heartfelt message. I will either tuck the card away or toss it as clutter. Do you throw God’s Words away as clutter? This question makes my gut hurt! Our God knows us, and His Words are meant as a love note to all generations…past, present, and future.
God’s Word teaches and trains us to identify false doctrines. We then can correct our negative thinking. It can keep us from being deceived by false teachers. I don’t always quote verses because that is not my gift. However, I know where to find them. I am surprised when God opens my mind and teaches me more than what I was seeking. He is always living in my heart to guide me through the day. He’s the teacher of Truths. God is patient and His love is perfect. When we seek Him, He’s there with open arms to embrace us. He never throws us away as clutter but keeps us close in His heart forever.
Father, our life experiences are all different in how we came to know You. But one thing is constant. Your love never ceases, and Your words are always true. We need to open our minds, hearts, and Your Word to know Your truths. AMEN.
