Hungry Starling Babies

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Matthew 6:26

And the squirrel just sat in the porch box and watched all that was going on. I laughed aloud, and thankfully, they could not see or hear me.

Let me give you a short account of this event:

A young starling sat on the porch rail squawking with its mouth open. Along came a parent who flew up to the feeder. The baby starling started hopping up and down until mom (or dad) came down with some seeds. It became quiet. But then, up to the railing came another youngster who proclaimed hunger even louder than the first.

Two little back fluff balls were jumping up and down demanding more.

All this time, the squirrel just sat their totally intrigued at the sight.

The seasoned and unflustered parent flew up again for more seeds. But when it came down, it landed between the two babies. It fed one and then turned and feed the other. Wow!

I cannot tell you which was more fun to watch—the look on the squirrel’s face, with him cocking his head back and forth, or the little birds acting like babies.

There are a few life lessons here to share. Hats off to the parents of the starlings who have learned some wisdom from experience. They remain unhurried and unbothered by their children’s demands.

The cycle of life continues for all of us. We are born, taken care of, raise our children and then find that we eventually need some help. That is just nature!

These starlings (and other creatures in nature) do not really need us. God provides for them just as He provides abundantly for us.

We are far more important to Him than any starlings. How important is He to you?

Blessed Be Your Name

Loving Lord, thank You for the moments when we can slow down and see Your creation. We praise You for the abundance that You provide as You meet our needs. Help us to recognize You as THE most important One in life. AMEN.
